Here are a few tips how to look after your jewellery;
・Remember to remove your jewellery when showering and doing physical tasks that may cause stress and damage to your delicate piece.
・Jewellery stored in plastic bags with an interlocking seal slows the natural tarnishing process and protects the piece from scratches.
Mix a squeeze of detergent (‘the green one’) with warm water in a bowl. Put the item into the soap mixture and let sit for a few minutes. Use an old soft toothbrush and gently scrub the jewellery. Remove item from soapy water, rinse well, and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Sterling silver tarnishes naturally in air and requires occasional cleaning. You can use ‘silver dip’ to remove the tarnish but please follow the instructions as described on its container. Please make sure you check before you use silver dip, as this may not be suitable for some designs with gem stones, such as pearls. If in doubt, please go to your local jeweller to polish the piece for you.
Intentionally oxidised sterling silver is darkened silver which is ‘decoloured’ by tarnishing it in a controlled way to increase detail and the appearance of depth in a design. The black oxide on silver may wear off or fade in time, depending on wear and the amount of care taken. However, the darkened areas should remain in crevices, giving the piece an antiqued appearance.
Our gold plated pieces are made from silver with a thick layer of 18 carat gold coating (vermeil). These do not tarnish like silver, however, the plating can gradually wear. To avoid this, be careful not to expose your jewellery to harsh chemicals such as perfumes, chlorine and bleach as these can discolour the piece. So always wear perfume /cream before your put on your jewellery!
